Blair at double for City

-

A deadly double from Blair Henderson fired highflying Edinburgh City to a 2-1 home win over Annan.

The goalscorer broke the deadlock in 43 minutes when he created space for himself on the edge of the box before lashing past keeper Jonny Jamieson.

Henderson added No.2 with 10 minutes left, heading home from a Craig Thomson cross.

Annan pulled one back from a Ryan Sinnamon free-kick in the closing stages but City held on to rack up their fourth league win on the spin.

City manager James McDonaugh paid tribute to Hendo who has amassed a remarkable haul of 11 goals this term.

McDonaugh said: “Blair is on a great run and I’m pleased for him. His opener was an exceptional finish and came at the right time.

“It’s great being top of the league but now we have to try and stay there.”

The defeat is Annan’s second in as many league matches and sees them drop to fourth in the table behind Peterhead and Clyde – both of whom triumphed yesterday.

Jim McInally’s Blue Toon came from behind at Cowdenbeath to win 4-2.

But the gaffer was livid at the treatment of his players and demanded more protection from refs.

Robbie Buchanan headed Cowden into a halftime lead after Peterhead defender Mick Dunlop had cancelled out Jason Talbot’s opener.

But it was all Peterhead in the second half with Derek Lyle equalising before Rory McAllister’s cheeky deflected backheel made it 3-2.

The away side capped a superb turnaround thanks to Willie Gibson’s free-kick from just inside his own half that caught out keeper David McGurn.

Blue Toon boss McInally said: “There were a lot of fouls that went unpunished and I don’t think it’s fair. It’s a wee bit open warfare.

“There are teams who think they can bully us but we showed we can take care of ourselves.”

Third-placed Clyde won 1-0 over Albion Rovers at Broadwood courtesy of Martin McNiff’s 19thminute strike.

Elsewhere, Ross McGeachie netted the only goal as Stirling saw off Queen’s Park 1-0.

Three first-half goals, including two in a twominute spell, gave Elgin a comfortable 3-0 win over Berwick at Shielfield.

Gregg Morrison struck twice, the second coming with the last kick of the first half, after an own goal from Jordan Orru.
