Stroppy Liam is put Wright about who’s Saints gaffer

-

Tommy Wright last night laid down the law to Liam Craig after hooking him at half-time.

The St Johnstone boss made it clear who’s in charge after keeping the midfielder inside at the interval of the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.

Wright and Craig had exchanged words across the pitch in the first half.

And the Saints gaffer insisted his move to make the substitution was NOT down to the fact his man was on a booking.

He said: “Liam came off because I’m the manager. There were a few words said at half-time but I make the decisions. I’m the manager, not Liam.”

Wright was pleased with the draw despite his team having led through David McMillan’s first-half header. He said: “It’s a good result against a good side and there were a lot of good things to take out of it. “David had a horrendous time last season with injury and was pretty low at times. “It was one of those injuries that went on and on but we were glad to get him back and scoring at the end of last season. He has come back this term full of confidence. “David is a scorer. He’s found goals wherever he’s played in the past – so it’s no surprise he’s getting goals now he’s fit again.” Wright had no complaints over ref Willie Collum’s decision not to award his team a penalty when Ross Callachan fell in the box after trying to hurdle a Joe Lewis challenge.

Wright (left) said: “I was going mad on the touchline because I thought Willie had booked him. It’s a correct decision because he’s jumped over him.

“It’s one of those ones ... his honesty means it’s not a penalty because if he’d left his foot in it would have been a stonewaller.

“The officials are under pressure every week – I think Willie gets it everywhere he goes.

“There have been a lot of good things happening in the game this season so it’s unfortunate we are talking about disciplinary panels and all that stuff.”
