Nat MP is one of the standout women
MP Mhairi Black and act ress Maureen Beattie are the latest to be recognised as Outstanding Women of Scotland at a ceremony in Glasgow.
The pair are among the 10 new inductees for 2018 into the list, compiled by the Saltire Society.
Other women recognised this year include Commu n i t y Ju s t i c e Scotland chief executive Karyn McCluskey and campaigners Talat Yaqoob, Beth Morrison and Isabel McCue.
Literary agent Jenny Brown, choreographer Janice Parker, scientist Sarah Wanless and Gaelic education and literary figure Rosemary Ward have also been inducted.
They were named at a ceremony at Glasgow’s Women’s Library yesterday.
The Outstanding Women of Scotland campaign began in 2015 and prev ious inductees include First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
Mhairi, a columnist for our sister paper the Daily Record, said: “I am hugely honoured to hold a place on this list amongst all the other phenomenal women who have been nominated this year, and I would like to thank every person who nominated me.”
Saltire Society President Sal ly Mapstone added: “Across the arts, politics, science, and vital areas such as justice, special needs and mental health, Scotland generates outstanding women, whom the Saltire Society is proud to celebrate.”
