JASON THE GAME

- Carson watch on

Stephen Robinson insists he doesn’t fear for his job, but has warned his Motherwell flops it’s time to stand up and be counted.

The Steelmen have taken just one point from a possible 18 after yesterday’s sickening last-gasp defeat to St Johnstone. And last kind of game it would be but we didn’t expect to have two head injuries.

“David McMillan has had to go off after what was not a great tackle but we knew we’d need to come here and battle and stand up to their physical presence.

“There was no comeback after we scored but you need to play right to the end and we did.

“We were battered by the Old Firm and, after the run we’d been on, even if we’d drawn today it would have been a massive point but to take all three is tremendous.” season’s two-time Cup finalists face a huge game against second bottom St Mirren in Paisley next time out as they look to end their woeful run.

Asked if he is worried about being sacked with his team still without a league win at Fir Park, Robinson said: “I don’t make that decision.

“We’ve got the club to two cup finals and we have a very low budget. If someone else makes that decision I can’t do anything about it.

“We need to win a game, boosted by Charles Dunne’s first appearance in three months as he returned after being sidelined with a groin injury.

And the stopper showed he wasn’t quite up to speed when Tony Watt raced away from him in a slick Saints counter but Trevor Carson saved well from the striker.

At the other end Zander Clark was relieved to see the crossbar come to his rescue when Andy Rose’s header hit the woodwork.

And Motherwell should have grabbed the lead early in the second half after David Turnbull picked out Main with a good pass, but the frontman blazed over.

St Johnstone went close with 10 minutes left when Drey Wright let f ly from distance before Peter Hartley got a vital block to divert Murray Davidson’s effort wide as the visitors kept pushing.

And the Perth men finally got their reward right at the death when Kerr got on the end of Craig’s corner to bullet home the winner. I’m not stupid. We had a good home record last season and players are under-performing who were over-performing last season.

“We have to look at the personnel but what I want now is players who will stand up and be counted. You either feel sorry for yourself or you dig in and show your character.

“If you don’t win games the fans get disillusioned but I thought they were good.

“They voiced their frustration and that’s to be expected when you don’t win games.”
