Broony set to miss out
Scott Brown was last night rated a major doubt for Celtic’s Europa League crunch with RP Leipzig on Thursday.
The skipper limped off just 21 minutes into the Hoops’ thrilling 4-2 win over Hibs yesterday. And boss Brendan Rodgers admitted it took the shine off a great day for his back-to-form side.
Brown had just returned from a
hamstring injury but is now sweating over the trip to Germany. Rodgers said: “It looked a sore one so I just have to wait and see. You know what he’s like, he’s a warrior and will do everything he can to be there. But we won’t know until a couple of days.
“He wanted to play on but he wasn’t going to do himself or the team any favours– he was struggling to get about the pitch. I don’t know if it’s the same injury he’s had. He thought it was maybe his calf then maybe his knee.”
His crocked skipper aside, Rodgers was thrilled as his team looked back to their best in dumping the Hibees and moving up to second spot. The gaffer said: “We were outstanding – it was a wonderful attacking performance. The rhythm and speed in our game is back.
“I think we’ve all seen the development of the team but we stood still as a club when we should have really gone into another gear.
“We didn’t do that and now we’re starting to move again. We’re starting to play with quality and at a level I know we can play at.
“We’ve never been frustrated with the players. – we’ve never doubted the way we can play. What was really good was we won but we entertained the people.
“There haven’t been enough times this season when we’ve done that.”
Leigh Grif f iths was missing yesterday but could return for Leipzig.
