Deadly tigress lured by perfume

-

A MAN-EATING tigress that killed 13 people – ripping the heads off some victims – has been shot dead after being lured by Calvin Klein aftershave.

Hunters used the scent of Obsession to attract the six-year-old animal in India after she evaded capture for two years.

Activists had campaigned to save the tiger, but India’s Supreme Court said it would not interfere if forest rangers were forced to shoot her.

So last month, wildlife officials deployed aftershave in a bid to lure the animal in the jungles of the western state of Maharashtra.

A team armed with a tranqui l iser gun and a firearm was stationed in a vehicle on a road where the tigress, known as T-1, had been spotted by villagers.

A tranquilliser dart was fired but once hit, the tigress charged the patrol’s vehicle and she was shot dead.

A post-mortem will now be performed.

The tiger is believed to have killed 10 people in 20 months since 2016, before killing three more this year.

Many of the bodies were decapitated as she dragged her prey away and at least one victim was found with his leg torn off.

Scientists in America discovered the smell of Obsession For Men was attractive to big cats in 2013, because it contains a synthetic aroma based on the musk of the civet.

India is home to more than half of the world’s tiger population with 2226 of the animals.
