Two women were killed when a gunman opened fire in a Florida yoga studio.
Nancy Van Vessem, 61, and Maura Binkley, 21, were shot and killed by Scott Beierle, 40, on Friday in state capital Tallahassee.
Five other people were injured in the shooting before the gunman took his own life. Two were still in hospital last night.
A police spokesman said: “There were indications that several people not only fought back but tried to save other people.” It is not thought to be terror related.
The actor is presenting a BBC documentary series about the country’s role in slavery, which generated prof its that funded industrial growth.
The two- part series – Slavery: Scotland’s Hidden Shame – sees Hayman, 70, travel across Britain and to Sierra Leone and Jamaica to uncover a story that has been swept under the carpet.
He said: “I don’t think there’s a problem with saying sorry.
“It happened 200 years ago, our ancestors were involved and we’re deeply sorry about this horrific, shameful episode in our past.
“We have a shared history, so what do we do? We can’t suddenly give billions of pounds because we don’t have it but we can build cultural and business exchanges, and create scholarships and traineeships for young people of Caribbean and African origin.
“We’re a country of entrepreneurs. Why can’t we have some entrepreneurs go and help kickstart businesses in the Caribbean?”
The series, which begins on BBC1 on Tuesday at 9pm, shows that
