Crime for sharp exit Robbo: Guilty linesman did half-time runner
wasn’t surprising considering the quality Dumbarton have.
“It was great to come away with a clean sheet.
“It was one of our best performances of the season.”
Dumbarton boss Jim Duffy said: “Montrose were wel l organised and we didn’t get to grips with them.” John Rober tson watched the assistant ref race up the tunnel at half- time – and knew Inverness had been given a raw deal.
But the Caley Thistle chief was still a happy man after the dust settled on a pulsating, Highland derby.
The result set a club record 23- game unbeaten run in the league for Caley, breaking the 1996 previous best.
But Robertson had been convinced County’s Bi l ly Mckay was offside before the cross that Brad McKay turned into his own net for the firsthalf equaliser before both sides blew a clutch of chances in the second period.
Robertson said: “It was a brilliant game. The first goal was a great strike but we felt we came back well and deserved to be ahead at 2-1.
“The equaliser was one where you can clearly see Billy Mckay is offside and we felt a bit aggrieved.
“People are not daft and the linesman knows he made a mistake. That’s why he raced up the tunnel at half-time.
“He has got it wrong and it has cost us today but it shouldn’t take away from what was a terrific game of football.
“This run should not go unnoticed and the players have to use breaking the club record as a springboard.”
What a rip- roar ing 90 minutes this was.
