Magic hopes Pars are finally in fast lane

- Colin Paterson

And that’s despite opening up a three-point lead with a third of the season gone.

The Somerset Park men have won three in a row to pull clear of Ross County and Ayr fans are now genuinely believing the can win the league.

However, McCall said: “Us champions? No. We’re just getting closer to 40 points.

“It was a grind. It wasn’t a good game. The pitch isn’t Allan Johnston reckons his slow-starter Pars are finally getting their act together.

Jackson Longridge fired the only goal to give the Fifers their first win in four league games.

Now Dunfermline gaffer Magic wants his men to push up the table. He said: “It’s a massive three points.

“This is a crazy league and I think our season is just starting. We have been slow great and needs relaid. Ray McKinnon – rightly so – set up his team to be hard to beat.

“They were really tough to break down but we got the goal and could have scored one or two more.

“Falkirk had a couple of half chances near the end with headers but Ross Doohan didn’t have a save to make.

“We have had a good week with three wins. We have not

starters but it is up to us now to find consistency.

“The boys deserved to win given how hard they worked.

“We’re back to creating chances again and looking like a threat.”

Both sides had chances lost a goal, scored five and got nine points, which is great.”

Craig Moore proved to be the matchwinner but the only goal in 52 minutes was disaster for Bairns No.1 David Mitchell.

Mark Kerr’s ball to the edge of the box was laid off by Lawrence Shankland.

Moore didn’t seem to make great contact but Mitchell couldn’t keep the shot out.

Falkirk showed spirit to try to get back in it but lacked composure in the final third.

Zak Rudden and Marcus Haber missed the target with and only a terrific goalline clearance from Lee Ashcroft denied Greig Spence the opener for the Wasps.

Spence again tested Pars keeper Lee Robinson then Alloa No.1 Neil Parry denied efforts from Aiden Connolly and Andy Ryan.

The Fifers finally broke the deadlock in 69 minutes.

A high ball into the box was cleared straight into the path of full-back Longridge who headers and it leaves Falkirk rooted to the foot.

But McKinnon sees positives after facing the league’s top sides back-to-back.

He said: “There was nothing in the game. We deserved a draw. We limited them until we made a mistake and gifted them a goal.

“Then we had to open up a bit. We got into great areas but never capitalised.

“We’ve played the leaders twice in four days and to put in the performances we have is incredible.” blasted his shot past Parry.

The home side pushed hard in the final 20 minutes but Pars held on for a muchneeded victory.

Wasps chief Jim Goodwin said: “The result isn’t great but it shows how important it is to take your chances during the game.

“We had chances to go in front. I felt if we had scored first we would have won the game but it wasn’t to be.”
