Gerrard will get his cash

- Graeme Young

Stewart Robertson insists Rangers’ financial results WON’T affect boss Steven Gerrard’s transfer kitty.

The Ibrox club revealed losses had more than doubled to £14million in the past year when they posted their annual results on Wednesday, moments before the 1-1 home draw with Kilmarnock.

The sacking of former boss Pedro Caixinha and maintenance work at Ibrox were among the reasons for operating costs that increased by £7.6m.

But Rangers managing director Robertson has moved to reassure fans that the club were braced for the results – even before Gerrard’s arrival.

And he claims the Ibrox boss will continue to be backed in the transfer market moving forward.

Gerrard oversaw a huge overhaul in the summer with the club bringing in 15 new players.

And Robertson said: “These figures were known prior to Steven coming in so it’s not had any impact on funds that are available to Steven to spend.

“The fundamental message is that the board and investors are still backing the club and investing in both the football and non-football side of the club.”

Meanwhile, Gerrard has added former Arsenal Academy and reserves coach Neil Banfield to his scouting department at Ibrox.

Banfield spent more than 20 years working for the Gunners before leaving in the summer following the departure of long-term boss Arsene Wenger.
