TURNBULL DOG BITES

-

The teenager seized victory for the Steelmen yesterday with a stunning 30-yard strike.

And gaffer Robinson insists his kid is fearless.

The Motherwell boss admitted he didn’t know where the winner would come from before the 19-year- old tried his luck.

Robinson said: “We showed a bit of composure.

“It was a marvellous goal. We are not getting carried away but David is a massive talent and needs carefully managed.

“He’s at an early stage of his career and unfazed by anything.

“I did worry that the goal wasn’t going to come. In some recent defeats we’ve created chances but missed them.”

It was Turnbull’s second goal in three days after he bagged his f irst for the club in the 2- 0 midweek win over St Mirren.

Robinson, whose side travel to Govan to face the Light Blues on Sunday, said: “If we can keep playing and defending like we did against Dundee then we can keep climbing the table. It’s completed a very good week ’s work.

“We can go to Ibrox next weekend f u l l of confidence.

“We’ve played Ra nge r s onc e already and drawn with them but our players have now earned the right to go there and have a right go at them.”

It was Well’s first home win all season but another blow for new Dens Park boss Jim McIntyre.

He’d called for improvement after his men had conceded 12 and scored none in his first three games in charge.

And Dundee almost took the lead in 11 minutes.

Calvin Miller swung in a cross and Darren O’Dea powered in a header that crashed back off the underside of the bar before being hacked clear by Carl McHugh.

Four minutes later Dundee’s Jesse Curran called for a penalty after a challenge from Richard Tait but ref Don Robertson rightfully waved play on.

Miller then went down in the box as he shielded the ball from Tom Aldred and Dundee screamed again for a spot-kick – but Robertson remained unmoved by the appeals.

Ryan Bowan picked up a yellow card after an aerial clash with O’Dea before McHugh drove wide in injury time and it remained goalless at the break.

It was Motherwell’s turn to shout for a penalty just after the restart when O’Dea slid in and won the ball cleanly as Main advanced in the area.

Robertson was again up with play and made the right call.

Motherwel l came within a whisker of the opener in 58 minutes.

Chr is Cadden crossed from the right and Ryan Bowman f lashed a he a de r inches wide of the target. Dundee suffered a blow when O’Dea left the field injured.

It was going to take something special to break the deadlock and Turnbull stepped up on cue in 69 minutes.

The teenager fired a superb 30-yard s c r e ame r that exploded into the top right hand corner of Hamilton’s net.

There was more misery for McIntyre late on when defender Andrew Boyle left the field on a stretcher after being hurt in a collision with sub Allan Campbell.
