Katie’s parents

Our mission for justice

-

Linda Allan, the mum of tragic Katie, said: “It is now unarguable that we have a prison system in Scotland that condones and covers up an increase in preventable deaths.

“When we first began our campaign a few weeks ago by doing an interview with the Sunday Mail, we did so to honour the memory of our daughter.

“We had to expose the horrific treatment Katie received at the hands of the Scottish Prison Service and NHS Forth Valley.

“We soon discovered the horrifying neglect that William Lindsay experienced at just 16 in the same prison.

“Last week, we met Humza Yousaf, the justice secretary. While we wait to hear the outcome of our meeting, we continue to grieve our daughter, to miss her smile and compassion.

“Meanwhile, we continue on with our campaign on the crowdjustice website. A campaign to give a voice to those who can no longer speak out, whose lives have ended as a direct result of neglect from a prison service, health system and government who, for now, choose rhetoric over reality and condone the social murder of some of our most vulnerable citizens.”

The Allans’ family lawyer Aamer Anwar said: “This isn’t just about Katie, William and other young people who died in Polmont. It’s about ensuring no other young person’s cries for help are ever ignored again.”
