Gemmill’s a big Fran of Bruce

Scot Gemmill was a team-mate of the original Fox in the Box.

Now the Scotland Under-20s boss is reminded of his old Everton buddy Franny Jeffers when he sees Bruce Anderson poach crucial goals for Aberdeen.

Anderson has been tipped for a big future at Pittodrie after his predatory strikes against Rangers and Kilmarnock.

Gemmill is delighted to have the firepower of Anderson and David Turnbull at Motherwell to call on.

He said: “It’s really impressive that they’ve influenced games so quickly.

“It really does help fast-track these young players but it’s then about staying in the team and becoming that regular player who can be trusted every week – and not being a young player who comes in and out of the team.

“With Bruce, it’s an and one that’s usually valuable but his club and manager would be quick to point out he’s only just starting to emerge.

“Everyone has a real responsibi­lity to help him push on and become the player we all hope he can be.

“I played with Franny Jeffers at Everton. It was a real skill. He got a big move to Arsenal for a lot of money in a quick period of time.
