Griffiths okay to be sub

- Michael Gannon

Leigh Griffiths says he’ll be happy to have a supporting role at Hampden today.

The Celtic striker – who admitted in MailSport last week that he’d been too FAT to play for the Hoops and Scotland – knows he’s not ready to be unleashed for a full match yet.

But the 28-year- old is ready to make an impact from the bench in the Bet f red Cup Final showdown with Aberdeen.

Griff spent more than a month out working on his fitness and confessed he’d suffered “dark times” after being sidelined with a calf problem and illness.

And while he has made two successful substitute appearances in the last week he insisted it would be harsh to drop in-form Odsonne Edouard.

He said: “You’ve got to go with the team playing well consistently. Odsonne is playing really well just now.

“If I was him I would be disappointed if I lost my place on Sunday. You’ve just got to take it on the chin like Thursday and Saturday there.

“I’ll wait for my turn to get on the pitch and try to have an impact.

“Ninety minutes is probably a bit much now. I’m still trying to work my way back to that stage.

“But listen, if the gaffer needed me for the 90 I’d do as much as I could.

“Right now I can’t have any complai nts at sitting on the bench.”

Last weekend Griff said: “Speaking to the manager and the sports science staff, it’s no secret that I was a bit heavier looking.

“But I’ve managed to drop a lot of weight and I feel a lot sharper now.”
