Tuesday looking terrific

-

Peterhead boss Jim McInally insists his side’s 5-0 destruction of Berwick fired a message to league leaders Edinburgh City.

Five different players found the net with Jack Leitch, Rory McAllister, Jason Brown, Russell McLean and Jamie Stevenson all scoring.

Peterhead travel south to face City on Tuesday and will go top with a win.

McInally said: “That’s 11 wins from the first 14 games, which is a record for us but we are still not top of the table.

“That is testament to the way Edinburgh City are playing at the moment.

“We face them in Edinburgh on Tuesday and I will be looking for more of the same from my players after today.

“The early goal helped settle us and it was nice to see the goals spread amongst the side.”

Strikes from Conrad Balatoni and Liam Henderson kept Edinburgh City two points clear in a 2-1 win at Annan.

Both City goals came from set-pieces and the capital city side looked comfortable until Annan pulled one back through Scott Hooper.

But they couldn’t force another and the Galabank side are now seven games without a win after slipping out the top four.

Albion Rovers boss Kevin Harper claimed time was running out for his players after a 4-2 loss at Elgin kept them rock bottom with just one win.

Brian Cameron and Shane Sutherland both scored twice for the Borough Briggs side while Graham Gracie hit back with two of his own for Albion Rovers.

The Coatbridge side are still eight points adrift at the foot of the table.

Harper said: “I said to the players if that’s the sort of performance they give, they will not play.

“We didn’t even do the fundamentals, there was not enough desire, work rate or effort. We were shocking.”

Ten-man Queen’s Park stopped their losing run with a 1-1 draw against Stirling Albion at the National Stadium.

Lewis Hawke put the Spiders ahead in 14 minutes before Darren Smith replied with a beauty of a lob in 37 minutes.

Gerry McLauchlan was sent off late on but Queen’s held on.

Cowdenbeath and Clyde shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw in Fife.

David Goodwillie set up John Rankin to fire in the opener in 17 minutes.

Jordan Allan levelled for Cowden after the break.
