for me, but what I don’t have is sentimentality.

“It’s clear that the level and the fluency of the team is there right now.

“I have that compassion for players but my job is to win games and win titles.

“Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, along with Tom Rogic, have been sensational in how they’ve played.”

Rodgers moved McGregor back into the captain’s midfield position yesterday and ahead of the crunch Europa League tie against Salzburg on Thursday, he said: “Does it give me a selection headache ahead of Thursday? Not really.

“I will sit down with my staff and have a look at it.

“I know what Scott and Olivier Ntcham can do but I know what the others can do too. I will pick a team to get a result.”

Celtic produced a ruthless display to see off Killie and displace them at the top of the Premiership table. Two goals from James Forrest and strikes from Odsonne Edouard, Mikael Lustig and in- form Christie left Rodgers delighted.

He said: “Ki lmarnock deserved the hype but we want to compete for every trophy and win as much as we can.

“When we play at our level we expect to win. We believe that we can win.

“It’s fair to say that when other teams talk about what they might do, we normally respond. I’ve told the players that competition will make us better. It helps us improve.

“Everyone was right to say how well Kilmarnock have done but our performance today did the talking, in terms of the level of hunger among the players.

“I thought the way we played against them today was near-on perfect.”

Kieran Tierney missed yesterday’s victory with a groin problem but Rodgers says he’ll be fit for Thursday.

He said: “Kieran just wasn’t right. There was no need to risk him with Emilio Izaguirre here.”
