Favourite star Olivia in tears over abusive trolls

Oscar nominee Olivia Colman has revealed she’s banned herself from social media – because she wants to avoid being trolled.

The Favourite star said she had lost sleep after reading mean comments about herself online.

Olivia – who won a Golden Globe for her role as Queen Anne – told how she had been reduced to tears by the abuse.

She said in a podcast with Broachurch co- star David Tennant: “I’m not on social media because I don’t think I’m very thick skinned.

“I think people forget, they put something into their phone about people they’ve never met, write and send.

“S omething wit h no repercussi­ons – they’ve no reason to think they’ve hurt anyone.

“On occassion, I’ll read d something which I shouldn’t have done and nd I’ll stay awake.

“I’ ll cry and go intoo a depresson. In the grand nd scheme of things itit ’ s probably not that mean ean but I’m not able to cope ope with it.”

Olivia also revealed how she felt uncomforta­blee with people fawning over herer now that she was a global star. ar.

She added: “Subservien­ce makes me really grumpy.

“People are trained to be a bit kowtowy to actors.

“That f**** me off. I go ‘please don’t do it. I just find it humilating, don’t do it,’ and they keep doing it.”

Olivia first made a name for herself with a variety of roles on television.

Her big break came when she played Sophie Chapman in the Channel 4 comedy series Peep Show.

Other TV comedy roles included Green Wing, Beautiful People, Rev. and TwentyTwe Twelve for whichwhic she won a Bafta TV award for Best FemaFem le Comedy Performanc­e.Per InI 2014, she won a BafBa ta for Best ActressAc in the role of DS EllieEll Miller in crime drama Broadchurc­h. The actress made a highly successful move into the film world, appearing in Hot Fuzz, The Iron Lady (as Carol Thatcher) and Hyde Park On Hudson, in which she played Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Oliv ia also played Hi ldegarde Schmidt in the latest remake of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. The Favourite – a period tale of jostling for power in Queen Anne’s court – achieved major critical and commercial success.
