HOW WATCHING A NETFLIX SHOW INSPIRED SNAPPER TO CAPT

- Our Alasdair

Alasdair MacLeod just wanted something new to watch but the opening credits featuring time-lapse photography sparked his imagination.

The result is this series of shots of Glasgow as Sunday Mail photographer Alasdair decided to use the technique on the city closest to his home.

Glasgow is showcased as never before – in a riot of light and colour, highlighting a city that never sleeps.

From the M8 in rush hour and St Vincent Street at sunset to a night game at Ibrox and a full moon rising over the Glasgow Science Centre tower.

The dad of four, from Ayr, said: “I was captivated by the opening credits which show landmarks shot in time lapse. I thought, ‘ I can do that and Glasgow will make the perfect subject.’

“I wanted to show how beautiful the city is in daytime and through the night after the sun sets and the lights come on.

“I took tens of thousands of photos and edited them down to around 5500 for a three-minute video, which I hope brings Glasgow to life.”

Alasdair, who got his first camera when he was 16, added: “Some of the images took an hour to shoot with a time lapse of a second and others took more than 18 hours, requiring me to stay up all night to capture the sun going down and coming up again.”

Award-winning Alasdair, who has been working at the Sunday Mail and the Daily Record for 17 years, went out in rain, hail and shine to get the best shots.

He said: “If it means getting just the right picture, braving the elements is all in a day or nightnight’ss work.work.”
