James’s Dr Frank- N- Furter in the Rocky Horror musical, says she is having the craziest time of her life.

She added: “I had never seen the show and didn’t know anything about it. I hadn’t a clue. I watched the film before my audition. It was so bonkers I knew I just had to do it. It’s the most fun show I’ve done.

“Duncan is phenomenal. I think he was born for the role of Dr Frank-N-Furter. He absolutely commands the stage, even in stockings and high heels. He is brilliant.

“The costumes are also out of this world. I haven’t got much on, to be fair. Most of the time I’m in my k nick er s and bra and a petticoat but I’m used to that after Flashdance.”

The Rocky Horror Show, which runs at the King’s until August 17 and Edinburgh Playhouse from October 28 to November 2, is known for its outrageous audience participation. Richard O’Brien’s musical masterpiece tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist, who is in the process of unveiling his monster creation to his scantily-clad, sex-mad crew. Joanne admits she had to warn her parents about the bawdy nature of the show. She said: “I had to prepare my dad by reminding him the rude things the audience are shouting are at Janet, not at me. “They’ve seen it a few times now so they are used to it and think it ’s hilarious. It is spectacularly rude. There’s a line I say about hot burning kisses and they shout out lots of sexually transmitted diseases, which makes me laugh.

“They also waggle large inflatable bananas when I say the word minion. It’s fantastic.

“It is a bit awkward when I do the bed scene and my brother is in the audience. I think he would rather just put his head underneath his jumper.”

Joanne, who has a place at the New York Film Academy to study musical theatre and film writing, says she can’t wait to bring Rocky Horror madness to Scotland.

She said: “Scottish audiences are one of my favourites. It’s like when you are on the Strictly tour – everyone looks forward to going to Scotland as everyone is bonkers up there.

“They are going to be really rowdy in a good way and I can’t wait to see what they all dress up as. “I remember there being lots of hen parties at the StrictStrictly shows, who were all cocostumed up so I just know their Rocky Horror ShShow fans are going to bbe mental.”
