The 53-year- old Fifer was in the frame to play superhero Wolverine 20 years ago but had to step aside for Hugh Jackman due to filming commitments.
And while he insists he has no regrets, Dougray said he is now enjoying getting super- f it to star as mi l itary man Jacob Kane, father of Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, in the new superhero series.
He said: “I go the gym every day and I do this crazy diet. I do the intermittent fasting diet so I can keep lean. I do two meals a day. I do a small breakfast and I do lunch and then that’s it. And then I’ll go cycling and I’ll go to the gym.”

In the series, Jacob is dad to twins, which is something Dougray knows all about.
He has 21-year- old twins Eden and Gabriel with his former wife Sarah Trevis. The actor is also father to son Milo, four, with actress wife Claire Forlani.
The storyline sees one of Jacob’s twin daughters and his wife killed.
He sends his surviving daughter Kate away from Gotham for her safety. When Batman leaves, Jacob makes it his mission to “protect his city better than the Dark Knight ever could”.
Kate returns to the city and their reconciliation turns to conflict as Kate becomes Got ham’s new caped crusader.
Batwoman is Jewish, which means Dougray’s character is, too. But the actor didn’t feel he had to swot up on Jewish culture for the part, given he appeared in the 2006 mini-series The Ten Commandments.
He laughed: “I played Moses, so I’ve had pretty good training to be a Jewish father.”
Dougray said he had a great relationship with 33-year- old Ruby, who starred in Orange is the New Black and films The Meg and John Wick: Chapter 2.
He said: “We got on very well really quickly. We like each other. I adore her. She’s great. She’s a lovely girl, really lovely, so I love working with her.”
The pair will be filming together until next March in Vancouver, Canada. Then, Dougray will star in and produce Crime, a TTV series based on friend and fellow HibHibs supporter, Irvine Welsh’s book, which is a sequel to 2013’s Filth.
DDougray plays the present day version of Ray Lennox, played by Jamie Bell in tthe film.
WWhen he does finally have some down timtime, though, he will indulge some of his mamany passions.
HHe said: “I’m a big reader. I like to rearead. I like to play golf and I like to watch foofootball. I like going to art galleries and mumuseums. That’s what I do.”
