Stein reckons Alfredo can break Old Firm

-

Niko Katic believes he has taken his game to another level at Rangers this season.

And the young Croat insists he’s thriving on the pressure of keeping his place in Steven Gerrard’s starting line-up.

The 22-year-old has nailed a place in the team, despite the arrivals of £ 3million Swedish stopper Filip Helander and George Edmundson from Oldham.

And he has warned his rivals that he’ll do whatever it takes to keep his Rangers jersey.

Katic said: “I feel I’ve taken my game to another level this season.

“If you want to keep your shirt here you have to show your best performances.

“Just now it’s good but I can still be better. I thrive on the pressure of having Filip and George here. They’re amazing players and you know everything about Connor Goldson too.”

Katic can’t wait to lock horns with Celtic at Ibrox today, where Rangers will have 50,000 supporters against just 800 away fans.

He feels that will be crucial to their chances of winning and going top of the Premiership.

The Croatian said: “The Rangers supporters will be a big factor on Sunday.

“When you play at Celtic Park you have 60,000 on your neck – everyone hates you so it’s difficult to play. It should be the same for Celtic when they arrive at Ibrox.”

Rangers legend Colin Stein says Celtic have no chance of achieving 10-in-a-row.

That’s because he’s tipping Alfredo Morelos to end his Celtic drought today in the first Old Firm clash of the season.

Morelos has played in nine derbies and failed to score in any of them.

Stein went through exactly the same agony after he became the most expensive player in Scottish football history when he moved to Ibrox from Hibs for £100,000 in 1968.

Fatefully, Stein broke his duck on January 2 1971 – but his equaliser was quickly forgotten as 66 people died in an horrific crush at the end of the 1-1 draw in what quickly became known as the Ibrox Disaster.

Stein, a Cup Winners’ Cup hero for Rangers in 1972, said: “It’s a real coincidence that I went nine Old Firm games without scoring – the same as Alfredo now.

“Of course, it wasn’t easy for me at that time.

“When you move to Rangers the way I did you want to be scoring against your main rivals.

“So the longer it went on, the more it preyed on my mind.

“I finally got my goal in January 1971 and it was a huge relief for me – especially to score
