Theatre of tragedy

Ince slams lack of passion

- Man United v Liverpool Today, 4.30pm

The Manchester United legend has delivered a damning verdict on the fare being served up at the Theatre of Dreams.

He claims the passion is being sucked out of fans – and that could blow up in Solskjaer’s face. United are at home to leaders Liverpool today, in mid-table and already 15 points behind the Reds.

One-time midfield guv’nor Ince, who also played for Liverpool, insists fans would be more forgiving of their dire start if they could see some fire on the pitch.

Ince (left) suffered a difficult start to his time at Old Trafford – but insists the support always had their backs.

He said: “They stuck by us. They could see we were trying to have a go, trying to win by outscoring the other team.

“They could accept being unlucky or losing to a better team.

“But they were passionate about the team and passionate about seeing exciting football.

“Where’s that gone? It’s not so much the Theatre of Dreams any more at United. It’s just a theatre. Somehow, they’ve lost their passion. It’s because fans have not been entertained for a long time.

“Ole has to give them something. He has to at least try to score goals.

“So the Liverpool game is real ly important for the relationship between the fans, the team and Ole.

“I don’t want to see the manager sacked but it could backf ire with the crowd getting on the players’ backs.

“Patience will only stretch so far and, from the fans I speak to, I don’t think it’s far from breaking.”

Paul Pogba and David de Gea are both out of today’s clash while Daniel James, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are doubts.
