Sunday Mail columnist travels the country to reveal scammers’ secrets in C5 series
Jean Johansson has revealed she went under cover for her latest telly role.
The presenter has turned detective for Channel 5 series The Big Con, which she fronts alongside Paul Connolly.
They will investigate whether the public are being offered value for money across the board.
It’s the latest prime role for the Sunday Mail Seven Days columnist, who has presented Animal Hospital and The One Show on the BBC and Channel 4’s A Place In The Sun.
Greenock-born Jean, 37, said: “The Big Con has been so interesting to work on. I found myself being gobsmacked by some of the everyday cons I’ve fallen for myself.
“As a mum and consumer, I’ve gained lots of tips to avoid being scammed and can’t wait to share them with viewers.
“Paul and I had a great time travelling up and down the country, uncovering stories and talking to the public.” The former contestant on Celebrity MasterChef will be focusing on a subject close to her heart when the first episode airs on October 31 – food.
Jean and Paul uncover some of the deadly bacteria that may be hiding inside some of the convenience foods popular with millions of families across the UK.
They meet a Birmingham family whose two chi ldren cannot get enough of ready meals – but change their minds when Paul shows them what may be lurking in their lunch.
She also reveals how wellknown shops are penalising hospital patients by charging over the odds for sandwiches compared with those on sale on the high street.
The investigative duo expose how patients and their families are paying exorbitant prices for food because there are few alternatives in or around hospital wards.
A Channel 5 source said: “We’re del ighted with the chemistry between Jean and her co-presenter Paul.
“There is a proper investigative edge to this show and it has a prime-time slot.”
