KEEN AS MUSTARD

-

The Queen’s KEEN ON (1.50) can extend Nicky Henderson’s magnificent record at Sandown.

The gelding appeared a horse of some potential when second in a bumper at Perth and the fact this is the one which has been selected for the job by the handler from three entries says a lot.

CHAMPAGNE COURT (1.15) can have a good career over fences and win the novice chase, while the other end of the age spectrum sees the veterans go later on.

It’s a race full of admirable old timers and it’s worth chancing

LOOSE CHIPS (3.30). Charlie Longsdon’s tough 13-year-old has won this race twice and he rates an each-way punt at a big price.

Over at Navan, there are some top stars on show with Apple’s Jade returning for a new term.

Gordon Elliott’s golden girl will be too short to back but she excels at this time of the year and races like today’s are meat and drink.

BALLYOISIN (2.10) can repeat last year’s win in the Fortria. Duc De Geneveries was a deserving winner of the Arkle but it was hard to be sure how good that form actually was as the race fell apart.

A Plus Tard was spectacular when winning the handicap at the end of that opening day at the Festival. I think he’s a dark horse for the Ryanair next spring.

Both of these will be better than Ballyoisin by the end of the season, but this is the big day for the JP-owned charge and he can make all in the hands of Mark Walsh.

Dual-Champion Hurdle second Melon makes his belated debut over fences for Willie Mullins but FAKIR D’OUDAIRIES (3.15) is a real up-and- coming talent.

Joseph O’Brien’s youngster was fourth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle behind Klassical Dream, second behind Pentland Hills at Aintree before chasing home Fusil Raffles at Punchestown.

McManus could have some day with ANDY DUFRESNE (1.35) making an eagerly-awaited timber bow for Elliott.

There also action in Wales at Ffos Las and the best bet there looks to be POBBLES BAY (3.05).

Evan Williams does well at the track and the nine-year- old has race-fitness on his side after a runner-up finish three weeks ago.
