Stevie’s revenge mission

- Gordon Bannerman

Zander Clark is backing Stevie May to haunt old club Aberdeen today.

May endured two tough seasons at Pittodrie before his summer return to first club St Johnstone.

And Saints keeper Clark reckons there are signs the striker is getting back to top form, with a goal in their last league match against Hibs.

That was a confidence booster for his team-mate and Clark said: “I’m sure Stevie aims to get on the scoresheet every game.

“But it would be good if he could score this weekend.

“He had a tough time at Aberdeen but these things happen. Sometimes moves work for you in football, sometimes they don’t.

“But we all know he’s a good player and it is our gain to have him here at Saints. Stevie got a goal a ga inst Hibs so hopefully he can build on that and kick on.”

Clark admits the 4-1 Hibees defeat was a setback af ter wins against Hamilton Accies and Hearts edged Saints out of the basement.

But Tommy Wright’s men have lost just one of their last four games against the Dons and the keeper said: “The back to back wins were a positive and came at a crucial time.

“So it was frustrating we didn’t perform to the same level against Hibs.

“But now we are focusing on Aberdeen. We know it will be difficult as they’ve started picking up results and are playing well.

“We need to make sure we are back to the standards we set in previous games and make sure we do our jobs well. We can build on that.

“We need to make sure we are tight and give the forwards something to work off.”
