Bug no excuse for that

- Gordon Parks

Stevie Ferguson insists Ross County won’t use sick lines as an excuse for being savaged by Livingston.

The Staggies considered asking league chiefs for a postponement after a host of players went down with the winter vomiting bug this week.

But after being well beaten by Livi, co-manager Ferguson is adamant they won’t blame the bug.

He said: “It was a tough afternoon for us, certainly not what we were wanting.

“We weren’ t good enough, we didn’t compete enough.

“It’s the end of what has been a difficult week but we’re NOT going to use the sickness bug as an excuse.

“In our last two games we did really well, we got our confidence back up and we were looking like the team we know we can be.

We were expecting a bit more of that today, so we’ll look at why that didn’t happen and correct it for the next game.

“Livingston took full advantage of us not being on our game today.

“And in this league if you are not on your game teams are more than capable of hurting you.

“At the same time we felt the goals we conceded were exceptionally cheap.

“We knew what was coming, it’s no surprise how Livingston play and we should have been able to deal with it better.

“The boys are suffering but we won’t let them feel sorry for themselves.”

Ferguson has urged his squad to make sure they are ready for the visit of Motherwell on Boxing Day.

He said: “Nobody is going to feel sorry for us so we’re not going to feel sorry for ourselves either.

“We need to dust ourselves down and make sure we are ready for the game against Motherwell.”
