The firm upheld her complaint in November and paid £ 200 to say sorry but it still couldn’t tell her when the lump sum would be sent or its final value.

Carol, of Wirral, Merseyside, added: “Scottish Widows said they had requested an IT fix on my policy but couldn’t provide me with a timescale. I was aghast.

“They couldn’t confirm the final maturity value either.”

Carol said: “I don’t know what else to do except expose the shocking treatment I’ve had.”

I got on to the firm and it finally paid £24,447.82 on Monday.

She will also receive further compensati­on and interest, bringing the total to £25,162.20.

Scottish Widows said: “We’re very sorry for the delay, which doesn’t ref lect our normal standard of service.

“The endowment has now been paid and eight per cent interest added, which is the amount expected by the Financial Ombudsman Service.

“Since the complaint was made, £ 550 has been paid for distress and inconvenie­nce.”
