ItIt comecomes wi th a variety of enginese but the one I aam driving is the daddy of them all – the 3.0- llitre V6 TSI petrol with 340PS. It eats up the road and I am only regretfulregret I cannot test this car with this engine off-road.
There is no bodybo roll as we power around bends and the eight-geagear automatic gearbox isi slick and smoosmooth.
This car fefeaturesa a i r s u s p ens ion with rear axle steering as an upgrade (£2370) and the result is utter bliss, no matter what the state of the road.
You sit high and comfortable on Mistral Grigio leather upholstery, which makes the cabin feel rich and luxurious and, with only five seats, there is piles of space for everyone.
Indeed, there is space for everything. With the seats down, the Touareg of fers a whopping 1800 l itres of luggage space.
The tech is equally impressive and includes up-to-date news feeds, internet, traff ic, fuel and weather info and continuous interaction between the driver, vehicle and Volkswagen.
Safety and security has not been skimped on either and new driver assistance technologies include night vision via a thermal imaging camera, traffic jam and roadwork lane assist, front traff ic assist, active all wheel steering and a new roll stabilisation system.
As I finally hand over the keys to this magnificent car, it occurs to me that it is such a winner I would not be surprised to find Scarlett Johansson behind the wheel one day.
