Joy of six is just the start for Blades stunner Oli

- ■ Neil Goulding

Oli McBurnie fired Sheffield United up to sixth in the Premier League – then vowed to help the Blades keep proving their doubters wrong.

The Scotland striker scored the only goals as Chris Wilder’s side beat West Ham on Friday night to remain in the hunt for an unlikely Champions League spot.

And the 23-year-old warned those expecting the top-flight new boys’ bubble to burst that it’s not going to happen. McBurnie, a £ 20million capture from Swansea in the summer, said: “People keep saying we’ve got the ‘new Premier League team’ vibe and we’re going to crumble soon.

“But we keep going and keep proving people wrong.

“It’s nice to be sat so high in the table but we want to look up, we don’t want to look down. We want to be as high up the table as we can. It’s a nice feeling and we want to stay up there.

“The training is really tough, really intense and it was a big shock to my system at first. But I’m noticing the rewards now.

“You can see how physical and energetic the boys are, that’s what we’re all about. We have a great group here and we feel we’re building something special.”

Fellow Scot Robert Snodgrass had an injury-time leveller for West Ham ruled out by VAR and McBurnie reckons it was high time Lady Luck smiled on the Blades.

After his fourth top-flight goal of the season, McBurnie said: “It’s tough but we know how West Ham feel because it has happened to us on a fair few occasions.

“We were due a decision – we’ve had eight or nine decisions taken off us so one in our favour is a nice feeling.”
