chip in with some goals.” Ferguson will be assisted in his quest to score more often with the signing of former Hibs and Celtic star Dylan McGeouch helping him push into a more natural role.

He said: “With so many key players injured the responsibility has to fall on someone.

“I knew I needed to shoulder some responsibility. Even though I’m still young, I felt I had to take it on.

“We didn’t have the experience we wanted in there but it’s not something I’d shy away from. It can only help me as a player and person.

“I enjoy all aspects of football, I try to take things in my stride. We have Dylan in there now and Craig will help me too.”

Alan Pardew stunned his ADO Den Haag f lops with a foul-mouthed training ground rant in which he appeared to tell new signing Jordan Spence to forget his Hollywood wife.

The former West Ham defender arrived in Holland with Pardew on a loan deal from Ipswich and is married to Charlie’s Angels and Power Rangers actress Naomi Scott.

But the 29- year- old and his team-mates were left open-mouthed when their new boss was caught on camera launching into a tirade during the club’s winter training camp in Spain.

Pardew, who is looking to get an instant response from a team that wil l start the second half of the season stuck in the relegation zone, appeared to shout: “You may have a f *****g Hollywood wife at home but you are here to work. We are not here to rest.”

His message seemed to be directed towards the entire squad, with s ome players believing their new boss had said “l i fe” rather than “wife.”

But Pardew’s no-nonsense methods have been on full view during training sessions that have been opened up to both the media and general public.

Club captain Aaron Meyers said: “The things the manager comes out with are very direct.

“He has brought a style from England which we have to accept.

“Right from the beginning he says what he thinks but it is certainly different than what we’re used to!”

Pardew has been delighted with the reaction of his Den Haag players after signing a contract until the end of the season.

The 58-year-old said: “Our squad’s response has been excellent.”
