Ianis will handle big hype

-

LASZLO huge admirer

Czaba Laszlo is adamant Ianis Hagi has already shown he can overcome his greatest challenge – the name on his back.

And the former Hearts and Dundee United manager has no doubt the playmaker will relish the challenge of firing Rangers to the title.

Laszlo, former head coach of Romanian topflight side Sepsi OSK, was dazzled by the direct running and eye for goal of Hagi when he played for Viitorul Constanta.

Hagi ’s performances earned him a £4m move to KRC Genk last summer and now Gers have secured his services on loan.

Laszlo is certain Hagi has the character and quality to handle the inevitable comparisons with his dad Gheorghe.

Romanian Laszlo said: “The biggest problem that Ianis had to face was his name. To say ‘Hagi’ means everything – Gheorghe is the best player Romania has ever produced.

“So it is difficult for Ianis with people waiting for him to become his father.

“That is big pressure but he is such a focused boy and has handled everything.

“Ianis is two- footed, direct, has an eye for goal and has great football intelligence,

“The Scottish league is tougher, in a physical sense, than Romania or Belgium so fans will need to be patient.

“Rangers are a good club for him because they play attractive, passing football and that will suit him.

“Steven Gerrard will be good for him too.

“Ianis can be the player who makes a difference in the fight for the title.”
