Boris Johnson’s girfriend pregnant with her first child.. but his sixth (at least)
Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds is pregnant with their first child and the couple are to marry.
The PM announced what will be his third marriage and at least his sixth child last night.
The baby – due this summer – will be 26 years younger than
Johnson’s eldest daughter, Lara Lettice.
Dur ing December ’ s victorious election campaign, the Tory leader repeatedly refused to reveal how many children he has.
The 55-year-old has four with
ex- wife Marina Wheeler and another conceived during an affair with property developer Helen Macintyre.
Symonds, 31, revealed her pregnancy on a private Instagram account in which she said a baby would be “hatching” in the summer.
She wrote: “I wouldn’t normally post this kind of thing on here but I wanted my friends to find out from me.
“Many of you already know but for my friends that still don’t know, we got engaged at the end of last year and we’ve got a baby hatching early summer.”
The couple’s spokesman later added: “The Prime Minister and Miss Symonds are very pleased to announce their engagement and that they are expecting a baby in the early summer.”
Johnson’s divorce to Wheeler – which has been estimated to have involved a £ 4million settlement – was finalised 11 days ago.
He and Symonds made history as the first unmarried couple to officially live together in Downing Street when they moved in last year.
Symonds , a former Tor y communications officer, was first linked romantically with Johnson in 2019.
But their association is understood to date back to when she worked on his successful re-election bid as London mayor in 2012.
An early summer birth would suggest the arrival was conceived about the time the October 31 Brexit deadline was extended.
Johnson is believed to be the first PM to be divorced in off ice in modern times.
Wheeler and Johnson, who have four children, announced their separation in September 2018 after getting married in 1993.
He was a childhood friend of Wheeler – the daughter of BBC journalist Charles Wheeler – when both were pupils at the European School in Brussels.
Johnson met his first wife, Allegra Mostyn-Owen, at Oxford University.
They married in 1987 but had their union annulled in 1993.
In 2013, it emerged during a court hearing that Johnson had fathered a daughter during an f ling while Mayor of London in 2009.
And in 2004, he was sacked from the frontbench over a reported affair with journalist Petronella Wyatt.
Mum-to-be Carrie has rarely been seen in public in recent months.
She was pictured recently leaving Number 10 via a back entrance and is said to have spent more time at Chequers, the PM’s country house in Buckinghamshire, this winter.
