Young Jarrod won’t be taking any Bows yet

-

West Ham boss David Moyes is determined to keep the pressure off Jarrod Bowen despite the £20million winger’s sparkling full debut.

The Hammers swept Southampton aside to end an eight-match winless streak in all competitions and climb out of the relegation zone.

Deadline-day signing Bowen marked his first start since moving from Hull with the opening goal. Strikes from Sebastian Haller and Michail Antonio then cancelled out Michael Obafemi’s leveller for Saints.

And Moyes said: “Jarrod did very well for his debut. I know a bit about giving boys from lower league their chances and I don’t want him to have pressure to be the one who has to perform.

“In my head, today was always going to be his chance to start and I’m really pleased with how he played.”

Marcos Alonso’s late header saved Chelsea’s Premier League top-four position as the Blues scrambled a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

The Spanish full-back headed home from a rebound five minutes from time to ensure Chelsea avoided a second miserable defeat in five days following their humbling Champions League home loss to Bayern Munich.

Alonso also grabbed the Blues’ opener but Bournemouth seemed to have turned the tide with two quick-fire goals from Jefferson Lerma and Josh King.

Brighton are still in a precarious 15th position as former England manager Roy Hodgson celebrated his 100th Premier League match in charge of Crystal Palace with a 1- 0 win at the home of their old rivals. Jordan Ayew’s 70th-minute winner came against the run of play and left The Seagulls pondering serious difficulties as they face a daunting fixture list for the rest of the season.

Newcastle United’s poor run of form continued as they played out a drab 0- 0 draw at home to Burnley.

Steve Bruce’s side have now won just once in their last 10 league matches after running into a stubborn Burnley, who are enjoying their best season in the Premier League era.
