Fans fear as Dundee post £1.8m loss
Dundee have made a staggering loss of £1.82m as they desperately fight to regain Premiership status.
The Dens Park club reported the losses yesterday in the wake of last season’s costly relegation to the Championship.
While the Dark Blues, who sit fourth in their quest to bounce back to the top flight via the play-offs, were anticipating a loss it was nothing quite like this. The previous year saw them lose £425,000 but these latest figures show they’ve more than quadrupled that to the end of May 2019.
Dundee blame a decline in cup competition revenue as well as a reduction in transfer gains for their off-field woes, while total expenses increased by almost £600,000.
Back in October 2018, the Dark Blues sacked former manager Neil McCann and replaced him with Jim McIntyre in a bid to stay up.
They continued to back the management team with new signings during the January transfer window but still failed to stay up.
And McIntyre was sacked for taking them down to the Championship after just seven months at the helm.
The club are forecasting another loss for the year to end of May 2020 as a result of life in the Championship.
But they remain adamant about plans to build a brand new stadium later this year.
Dundee fans, though, are concerned about the future if the club remain stuck in the Championship for a prolonged period.
Yesterday’s clash with Arbroath was postponed due a waterlogged pitch at Dens Park after rain battered the city for days.
