McCart expects Ed ache

- Gordon Waddell

Jamie McCart tried to tame the raw talent of teenager Odsonne Edouard on a daily basis.

So he knew the day Celtic shelled out £9million on him it was one of their biggest-ever bargains.

Now the former Hoops kid has to shackle the onfire Frenchman and Leigh Griffiths for real today.

The 22- year- old has made a huge impression at St Johnstone since his January window move from Inverness.

Saints are unbeaten in the six games he has started and he’s ready to play against his former team for the first time.

McCart made just a s ing le Lea g ue Cup appearance for the Hoops as a teenager and is desperate to make a mark.

He said: “It’s not easy playing against Griffiths and Edouard. They are two of the best strikers in the league over the past few years and now they are playing together.

“I played against them both at Celtic and Griffiths doesn’t even need half a chance to score.

“And that £ 9m fee for Edouard now looks like an absolute bargain.

“He is real quality. Some of his play is ridiculous.

“It is so impressive what he has done, especially after Moussa Dembele left Celtic. Those were big shoes to fill. He has more than filled them.

“This will be my first start against Celtic.

“The best thing for me was leaving and getting games. I was lucky enough to go to Inverness and play 50 or 60 games.

“I was eager to make a name for myself and having sampled it on loan I wanted that environment week in, week out.

“It won’t be easy but we should take confidence from our 2-2 draw with Rangers last week.”
