VAR-lite looked at by SPFL

-

SFA chief Ian Maxwell has s revealed ‘ VAR-lite’ could be e introduced in Scotland.

Maxwell confirmed the e SPF L i s one of 3 6 competitions looking at t video technology and FIFA A president Gianni Infantino o is keen to roll out a budget t version to those who have e declared an interest.

At Saturday’s annual mee t i n g o f F I FA’s International FA Board in Belfast, Maxwell confirmed: “We are invest igat ing things. We are going through the process with IFAB and that’s something we are looking to take forward. Whether it’s VARlite or not is up for debate.”

The IFAB has set up a working group aimed at f inding solut ions for c omp e t i t i o n s w i t h r e s t r i c t ed bud g e t s . Infantino said: “Technology is evolving and it is our objective to make sure VAR isn’t something exclusive for rich leagues.

“It doesn’t have to be 40 cameras, it can be four. We don’t need two, four, six or eight people in a van, it can be done with one. We are analysing the possibilities.”

The veteran must have filled the heart of Stevie Clarke as well as every Jambo in the country with this performance.

A masterful display leading the line, won every header against two huge centre-halves and ran until he dropped to keep his old club under pressure.

Shocking display. Took dog’s abuse from both benches and all four stands – felt like fourth official Willie Collum was more in charge than he was at times.

Missed two big calls, a penalty for Hearts and at least one red card. A lot of mistakes to cram into 90 minutes. 5/10 boss Steven Gerrard and his side. The Aussie midf ielder’s 58thminute winner and the Hampden spot it earned his side were no more than Daniel Stendel’s men deserved for a performance of energy and sheer grit.

And despite a pre- half- time bout of penalty- box bedlam – most of it inflicted on the game by ref Steven McLean – the outcome never looked in any real
