Allan’s fallen head over heels for yoga

-

Allan Campbell is ready to bend over backwards to help his Motherwell teammates next season – after taking up yoga.

The fitness fanatic midfielder added it to his punishing daily regime during the Covid-19 lockdown and reckons it will help him when the Fir Park side return to training next month.

Campbell said: “It’s all about trying to keep myself active. The club provided us all with programmes to follow and I’ve been doing that but I’ve been adding other things too.

“Fortunately, I’ve got a personal gym in my house so I’m able to lift weights and do circuits on my own as well as going for runs.

“Plus I’ve discovered yoga. I’d never done it before but I have a lot of free time on my hands just now so I might as well put it to good use.

“The stretching is good for you – it keeps your body supple and helps with injury prevention.”

With Well boss Stephen Robinson having to cut costs despite his side’s third-place finish last season, 22-year-old Campbell will be one of the veterans of the team.

He is looking forward to his new mentoring role and said: “I’ll try to take it in my stride. When you come into the first team it’s hard because you can’t be a kid any more. You’re under a lot of pressure.

“I know what that’s like and I’ll be happy to help in any way I can.”

Campbell has made 120 appearances for Well since breaking through four years ago.

He has also won 20 Under-21 caps and would love to graduate to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

He added: “That’s a good number of Under-21 outings and I’m hoping to make the step up to the senior team.

“Steve Clarke has proved he’s willing to give young players a chance if they’re doing well so while playing for Motherwell is my priority it’s great to know that pathway is there.”
