Jailed crime clan dealer slashed over bug claim

Con told police he found tracking gadget on his car

-

Robert Daniel suffered wounds to his face after he was targeted by inmates within minutes of leaving his cell.

The attack last Sunday in Glasgow’s high security Barlinnie is the latest violent incident between the Daniel and Lyons organised crime groups.

Sources say Daniel – serving two years for dealing heroin and cocaine – infuriated the Lyons gang when he told off icers he found the electronic device attached to his vehicle.

He claimed to f ind the gadget after checking his CCTV cameras and saw two men – one tall and the other small – acting suspiciously.

Daniel then told officers that he threw the device away. It was never recovered.

Details of the incident were heard at an organised crime trial last year.

But Daniel, 30, failed to produce the footage before giving evidence at the hearing, which saw six men jailed for trying to kill him and four associates.

Rivals have accused Daniel – also known as Lindsay – of lying about the episode taking place.

Andrew Gallacher, Robert Pickett, Brian Ferguson, Peter Bain, Andrew Sinclair and John Hardie were sentenced to a total of 104 years at the High Court in Glasgow last April for attacking Daniel, Steven “Bonzo” Daniel, Ryan Fitzsimmons and Gary Petty.

Jurors heard Daniel – previously jailed for attacking a gran outside a pub in 2012 – was chased into a house in the city’s Robroyston in December 2016 after his car was rammed. He was then hit with a hatchet or a machete.

The trial also heard how officers discovered two trackers inside his car – which he claimed were used to keep tabs on his dogs.

The jury was told Bonzo suffered wounds to his face after a machete attack when his vehicle was forced off the road near central Glasgow in May 2017. Police found a tracker attached to his taxi.

The incidents were part of a tit-for-tat turf war between the rival gangs.

A source said: “Daniel told police he got a phone call from his cousin telling him to check his CCTV.

“He claimed he found the tracker but tossed it straightaway and no longer had the footage. Telling police this has angered the Lyons gang and they took the first opportunity to attack him when he was sent to Barlinnie. He’s been called a liar and a grass.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are ongoing.”
