Celtic are set to welcome Strachan back to Parkhead – ex- boss Gordon’s son Gavin.

MailSport understands the Peterborough No.2 is now in pole position to fill the vacant position on Neil Lennon’s coaching staff left by Damien Duff.

And last night, Posh’s director of football

Barry Fry confirmed that talks have taken place between the two clubs and the English League One outf it won’t stand in Strachan’s way.

Gavin’s dad Gordon was Hoops gaffer for four years between 2005- 09 and his boy could now follow him into the Celtic dugout.

He was only appointed Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson’s assistant in 2019 but now Lennon is keen to bring him to Parkhead.

A financial deal is in place to secure his services and fill the gap left by former Chelsea and Newcastle star Duff , who took up a role with Republic of Ireland this summer.

Fry told MailSport last night: “We’ve spoken to Celtic and we’re not going to stand in Gavin’s way.

“I f they choose him, there’s a deal in place and it would be another great signing for Neil Lennon and Celtic.

“They’re a massive club and when Celtic come calling you can’t stand in anyone’s way.

“Gavin’s a fantastic coach. We’ll wish him and Celtic all the best.”

Strachan began as a player at Coventry City when his dad was the Sky Blues’ boss and also played for Dundee before becoming a coach.

He previously worked with gaf fer Ferguson – whose famous father Sir Alex bossed Strachan’s dad at Aberdeen and Manchester United – at Doncaster Rovers.

As well as having a Celtic connection through his dad, it’s understood Strachan was also on the same coaching course as Lennon’s assistant, John Kennedy.
