No fans will be Grimm
Jack Grimmer helped 40,000 Coventry City fans lift the roof off Wembley with a stunning goal the last time he played there.
This time, the former Aberdeen defender reckons the only sound inside the famous stadium wi l l be his squeaky Scottish accent.
Grimmer is aiming to get back to Wembley with Wycombe Wanderers as they face Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town in the League One play-off semis, starting this Friday.
Should Wanderers win that two- legged tie, the full- back reckons there will be a bizarre feel inside the 90,000-capacity venue for the final against Oxford United or Portsmouth.
He said: “It will be really surreal if we get there. I’m just glad my first Wembley experience was a normal one with all the fans there and of course scoring to help get Coventry up. This time – if we get there – it will be really strange for those who are playing there for the first time.
“I’ve warned my family when they’re watching the games just to listen out for the high-pitched Scottish accent!”
Grimmer has been away from Scotland since leaving Pittodrie at 18 and wants to get back up the road at some point.
He admitted: “I spoke to a couple of Scottish clubs last summer. I’ll definitely return in the future.
“I’ve also been away from family and friends for a while now and it would be nice to get back home.
“I’d like to think I could play at the top end of the Scottish Premiership.
“By playing regularly in Scotland, I would have a better chance of being selected for the national team at right-back.”
