Jambos third biggest club in Scotland .. it’s all about righting the injustice and Robbie will have no problem attracting top stars ... they’ll want some of it

Morgaro Gomis didn’t have to think twice about joining Hearts six years ago after looking at the strength of teams in the Championship.

And when the fixture list was later released it showed why it was such an easy decision – as a mouthwatering start to the season saw them head to Ibrox on the opening day followed by the visit of rivals Hibs.

Hearts got off to a flying start with 2-1 victories in both games and didn’t look back as they went on to romp the league by 21 points.

It was an exceptional campaign when three of Scotland’s biggest clubs battled it out in the second tier.

Gomis knows that next season’s Championship is nowhere near as attractive for the Jambos.

Another of his former clubs Dundee United have finally managed to get out of the division, awarded the title after the season was called early due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The situation could yet change if Ann Budge’s legal bid is successful to halt the Tangerines’ promotion and reverse the decision to relegate Hearts.

The feud was cranked up when Budge was successful in nabbing boss Robbie Neilson from Tannadice in a shock move that saw the 40-year-old return for a second spell as Gorgie boss.

But if Hearts fail in the court then the men in maroon will be in the second tier and the fact it’s

a as the fans are so demanding – that’s why some players don’t succeed at Tynecastle but if you can do well it’s a great place to play football.”

Hearts blooded some youngsters six years ago under the watchful eye of experienced players such as Gomis.

Now the former Senegal cap is bringing on the next batch of rising stars in a different capacity.

He said: “I still work for Hearts as an Under-16 coach so I want them to get back up because they don’t deserve to be in the Championship.

“Hopefully I can help prepare a few youngsters for the first team because youth might get a chance.

“It’s one of the reasons Hearts are a big club – they give kids a platform.

“In the season before I joined they actually played a lot of young players in preparation for relegation.

“They were deducted points for going into administration and knew fairly early on they were going down.

“The one positive was they could plan and change the structure of the club. They brought in experience while also giving youngsters a chance.

“We had a good team and Robbie was obviously the manager. I hope they can do the same again and regroup before coming back up.

“The club will be united by a sense of injustice and the fans will get right behind them. They will try to repeat what they did last time.”
