My goal is to go at full tilt

-

James Tavernier has always shown an eye for goal in his five years at Rangers.

And he’s being used as a role model for another right-back who has still to get on the scoresheet.

Motherwel l ’ s Liam Grimshaw hasn’t scored after eight years as a pro – but reckons the Rangers skipper can lead the way.

Tavernier averages a goal every five games and his 46-goal haul is only beaten by Alfredo Morelos in the current Gers side.

Grimshaw said: “The role of the full-back is changing nowadays. We’re expected to do more attacking.

“I’ve had a few assists but I’m yet to break my duck. But look at how well Tav has done.

“He’s had a few penalty kicks but that’s not the whole story. He also scores from free-kicks and open play. I’d like to add some goals to my game.

“Maybe once I get that first goal more will follow.”

Motherwell upset the odds last term by finishing third behind the Old Firm and Grimshaw believes they should have received medals for being the best of the rest.

He said: “OK, we came third but that’s as good as it’s going to get for us or any club outside the Old Firm.

“Celtic and Rangers are in a different league from us. So third place for me means we won our league.”

Meanwhile fellow Well defender Charles Dunne has been offered a shortterm contract to continue his injury rehab at Fir Park.

And he’s grateful for the support as the centre-back eyes a comeback.

He said: “I appreciate the club offering me a deal. It’s been the hardest year of my life injury-wise but they’ve been great with me.

“I’ve had my operation, I feel better now and I want to build on it.”
