Clubs ready to swoop for Ibrox star striker riker
Steven Gerrard admits he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to hold on to star striker Alfredo Morelos.
The Rangers gaffer wants the Colombian to lead the line as they attempt to stop Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid. But Gerrard says he may be powerless in his attempts to keep Morelos at the club if a suitable offer comes in.
The frontman,
who Rangers value at around £ 20million, has prev iously at t racted interest from clubs in England, Spain and Qatar.
But so far the club have yet to receive a concrete bid for the 24-year-old.
Last week Rennes were linked with a £15m move but Gerrard is praying his prize asset is still around tto spearhead a title charge.
He said: “Alfredo is a ffantastic footballer.
“He scores goals in big vvolumes and I’m really llooking forward to him ggetting match fit, up to sspeed and ready to play.
“But I suppose what you wwant me to say is, whether hhe will be here next year. ThThat’s the million- dollar qquestion. I want all my bbest players here, I’ve said tthat many times.
“For us to be successful wwe need our best players fifit, available and out there oon the pitch.
“But you and I know that eevery player has his price. WWill we get bids for our best pplayers? It’s quite possible.
“That’s something I can’t ccontrol so it’s something wwe are just going to have to mmanage going forward.”
Morelos rattled in 29 ggoals last term for Rangers bbut hit a dry spell after the winter break. Two red cards – one in December’s Old Firm derby win in which Ryan Kent scored – blotted his season’s copybook.
But Gerrard hopes fatherhood will help him mature after his wife Yesenia gave birth to a girl last month.
He said: “I know first hand having a daughter in your life does change you.
“It matures you, of course it does. He looks absolutely delighted, you can see it right across his face. Everyone here is pleased for him.”
