Social media expert lands Broadway job after her style wows theatre star

A social media influencer from Glasgow is heading for Broadway to help the stars with their style after dazzling one of the world’s top performers with her colourful flair.

When orange-haired Sheri Scott spotted pop star and Broadway legend Billy Porter and his stylist dining at a restaurant in London, she couldn’t stop herself running over to tell them both how much they had inspired her. Dressed head to toe in her trademark orange, the style-conscious influencer, nicknamed the “Tangerine Queen”, made quite an impression. Porter’s stylist Sam Ratelle told her he never normally liked the colour orange but said he was blown away by her look.

He started following Sheri on Instagram and has now invited her to work with him to brighten up the social media profiles of up-and-coming and established Broadway stars. Sheri, 34, of Glasgow, said: “Billy Porter is such an inspiration to me and Sammy Ratelle is the stylist of my generation. When I met them, I was such a jumble, blurting out the 18 sentences that were in my head all at once.

“But thankfully they saw it as endearing. Billy told me, ‘Chill, baby girl. Don’t die. I want you to live.’ “He told me he liked my energy, that I had such a sparkly soul and that this was not the last time we were going to meet. “Sammy said that growing up he had hated the colour orange – he never used it in his work – but that I was a vision and we needed to talk.

“He started following me on Instagram and since then we’ve kept in touch. Now he’s invited me to work with him to help other Broadway stars like Billy. It’s such a dream come true.”

Award-winning star Billy, 50, is rivalled only by Lady Gaga when it comes to rocking the red carpet. With fashion director Sam as his stylist, he turned up at last year’s Met Gala in an Egyptian pharaoh-inspired gilded bodysuit, being carried by six shirtless men.

He was dressed in a stunning black velvet Christian Siriano gown with a matching tuxedo jacket for the Oscars.

Billy, who won a Tony award for his stage role as Lola in Kinky Boots and who stars in the TV series Pose, works closely with Sam in designing the looks.

Sher i , who posts on social media as Foreveryours Betty, has worked with clients including Oliver Bonas and Gant and co-owns a cafe and roll shop in Ibrox, Glasgow.

She said: “When I’m able to leave the country, my plan is to go to New York to see Sammy, help curate and come up with a strategy to help some Broadway singers, actors and performers improve what they do on Instagram.”

Sheri, who has more than 60,000 followers across social media, shares images of everything from herself dressed in new and vintage clothes to her beautifully styled Glasgow flat, which is decorated in her favourite shades of orange and green.

Earlier this month, Sheri joined Sam as his guest in a live internet broadcast he shared with

more than 16,000 of his Instagram followers.
