Christophe’s set to battle for his place

- ■ Fraser Wilson

Craig Gordon insists Christophe Berra (above) is ready to fight for his place at Hearts.

The veteran defender spent part of last season on loan at Dundee after being told he was not in flop boss Daniel Stendel’s plans.

But, just like Gordon, the 35-year-old is set for a fresh start under new gaffer Robbie Neilson.

The keeper said: “In football, things move on, managers make decisions, other players come in – these things are possible.

“Christophe is philosophical about it. That’s football.

“He is just excited to be getting back training and giving himself the best opportunity to try and play games again.

“He is a great professional, which is the reason he has been captain of this club. Everybody will be looking forward to a fresh start.”
