No bruv lost as Cummings fills void at Warriors

-

Richie Gray reckons Scott Cummings is the man to fill the gap left at Glasgow Warriors, created by brother Jonny Gray’s departure to the Exeter Chiefs.

Gray senior, now 30, has arrived back at the Warriors this summer for a second stint after eight years playing in England and France.

And just as he settled back into his home town, his younger brother has decided to take the next step in his own career.

While disappointed that they wont line up together in Warriors’ second- row, Richie believes 23- year- old Cummings is the perfect replacement.

He said: “Scott is a fantastic player, I have been really impressed with him.

“For a second-row he hits some of the best lines off nine I have seen in a long time.” Dundee’s Paul Kean will dust himself down after failing to get his hands on the WBO European super-welterweight title.

Kean, 27, suffered his second career loss to highly- rated English fighter Hamzah Seeraz.

The southpaw was pulled him out of a one-sided contest in the seventh round.

Former WBC supermiddleweight champ Richie Woodall said: “He’s a brave kid but he was second best.”. Cameron Norrie came out on top in a battle of the Scots semi-final at the British Tour tennis event.

The World No.77 beat highly rated Aidan McHugh 6-2 6-4 and will tackle Paul Jubb in

today’s final. Maia Lumsden will compete against Alicia Dudeney in the women’s final, af ter disposing of Amelia Rajecki 6- 4 6-3. Perth potter Scott Donaldson is ready to control his nerves as he bids to qualify for the World Championship for a second time.

The Scottish prospect qualified for snooker’s top tournament last season after coming through a dramatic decider against China’s Lu Ning.

He said: “I know if it goes close that I’ve done it before, so I can qualify again. I’ve played at the Crucible now so there is less pressure on me.” Former European gymnastics champ Dominick Cunningham took part in training sessions that pushed him to the limit.

But the 25-year- old, who won floor gold in Glasgow in 2018, says recent allegations of bullying and abuse have crossed the line.

He said: “Gymnastics is an incredible sport but it’s up there with some of the most brutal.

“The stories I’ve heard are just unacceptable. Gymnasts are young and vulnerable.” World champion Dutch speed skater Lara van Ruijven has died aged 27 after bat t l i ng with an autoimmune disorder.
