New Arthurlie boss Andy McFadyen is sure Barrhead fans will soon get to know what he is all about after his surprise summer arrival.

McFadyen’s appointment as Dunterlie Park boss raised a few eyebrows given his background in Under-21 football.

But the new man is confident he can prove any doubters wrong as he looks to revive Lie, as they move from the juniors to the new West of Scotland League.

McFadyen wa s comanager of Rutherglen Gl enc a i r n’s h i g h l y successful Under-21 team for a decade and Blantyre Vics’ Under-21s before that.

His 10- year st int in Rutherglen saw him win two SYFA Scottish Cups, a league title and several other cups, with the two Scottish Cup wins coming at the expense of Barrhead YFC in the finals.

McFadyen said: “Arthurlie are a massive club and I can’t wait to get started.

“They haven’t been in the top league for a few years now, so we will take it a game at a time and hopefully win over the fans.” McFadyen’s arrival came a few months after the appointment of his backroom team of assistant boss George Fotheringham and coaches Craig Palmer, Ryan McArdle and Robert Kerr, all also previously at Glencairn.

It came as no surprise, therefore, that Arthurlie targeted and successfully secured several Glens players over the summer, most notably the prized assets of Dale Simeon and Jordan Leyden.

Other notable additions include defenders Kris Gebbie, David Mackay and Rhys Donaldson, whi le strikers Gary Smith and Gary Carroll should prove a big threat to every defence in their conference.

McFa d y en a dd e d : “Simeon and Leyden could play at any level and we are delighted to have them on board.

“Both players can win a game with a touch of magic.

“But we also have some experienced players who have played at a high level and some promising young players.”
