A lan Power bel ieves everything is looking up for Kilmarnock this season with Alex Dyer in charge.

Killie claimed third spot – their highest top-f light placing for 53 years – under Steve Clarke and Dyer two seasons ago before Clarke quit to take the Scotland job.

A disastrous stint with Angelo Alessio in charge left Dyer having to salvage the season after the Italian was sacked.

Power reckons Dyer has the club back to where they should be and hopes they’ll be challenging for Europe after last season’s seventhplace finish.

The Irish midfielder said: “The gaffer played a huge part in the success we had under Steve Clarke.

“Consequently, he knows how fit we need to be in order to play the way we do. I think we’ll have everyone pulling in the same direction again with the gaffer.

“He has always had the respect of the players, he knows how to get the best out of us and the pre-season under him has been great.”

When Killie kick off the 2020/21 season against Hibs at Easter Road in 13 days’ time, it will have been nearly five months since they last kicked a ball in anger. Even so, Power reckons this will have been his shortest-ever summer holiday.

He said : “When the lockdown started, we didn’t know what was going to happen, whether the season was going to finish then or we’d be asked to come back and complete the fixtures.

“As a result, we were each given programmes we had to follow and everyone kept themselves ticking over in case we had to start playing again at short notice.

“The season was called on May 18 and at that point we had five days off but we couldn’t go anywhere.

“It was time to start thinking about getting ready for the new season.

“Fortunately, we’re back into the normal sessions now and we had a bounce game with Motherwell on Friday. The sessions have been good and lively because we’ve gone back to training the way we play and, hopefully, that will stand us in good stead.”
