Djok’s historic double Reread it & sweep

-

But there was misery for Jamie Murray as the Scot and his doubles partner Neal Skupski lost their Final in New York.

Djokovic had to work hard to land the Western and Southern Open title – the ninth in the ATP Masters 1000 series – after going down a set to Milos Raonic.

The Serb dug deep to maintain an unbeaten 2020 as a 1- 6 6-3 6- 4 triumph over the Canadian sealed his second clean sweep of titles. No other player has managed it even once.

The 33-year-old also tied Rafa Nadal’s record of 35 Masters

1000 titles. Top seed Djokovic failed to find his rhythm as

Raonic started aggressively.

The world No.1 double faulted at 1- 4 to give Raonic a double break before the Canadian closed out the set.

Djokovic found his stride in the second set, taming the serve of the giant Raonic, who began to misfire from the baseline.

Surprisingly, the Canadian broke in his first return game to take a 2- 0 lead in the deciding set.

Djokovic, though, again moved up through the gears and broke back immediately, then repeated the trick after holding his own serve.

Getting over the line wasn’t straightforward, however, with Raonic earning a break point as Djokovic served for the title at 5- 4.

But the 29- year- old couldn’t capitalise and Djokovic served out to get his hands on the trophy again.

Murray had no such fortune as Pablo Carreno Busta and Alex de Minaur inf licted a 6-2 7- 5 defeat in the raindelayed doubles showpiece.

Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka is a major doubt for this week’s US Open.

The Japanese star withdrew from her singles final with a hamstring injury, handing the title to Victoria Azarenka.
