- Sally Hind

Drinks giant BrewDog has been accused of stalling on refunds efunds after selling about £280,000 0,000 of tickets for its cancelled elled Punk AGM event.

One angry shareholder has resorted sorted to legal action in a bid to claw backk their cash from the firm – more thanan six months after the Aberdeen eventt was scrapped due to Covid-19 in April. il.

The Aberdeenshire-based brewer, wer, which achieved revenue of about ut £250million last year, was branded d “shameful” for delays in handing g back money for some of the 14,000 0 tickets sold for its Annual General al Mayhem bash, priced at £20 each. h.

When customers asked for their r cash, BrewDog said it had given n refunds for a short time and said d it was holding off issuing more e until the AGM was rescheduled.

But with no real prospect of a new date being set, the firm has s been challenged in the small l claims courts. It sent an email to o customerscustom last week saying plans for refundrefunds would soon be announced. One shareholder – who did not want to be namedn – told the Sunday Mail he had seserved legal papers on BrewDog via AberdeenAberd Sheriff Court and complained abouabout the refund pol icy to the ComCompetition and Markets Authority. TheyTh said: “It’s only £40 to me but I ththink it’s the principle of the mmatter. It’s shameful behaviour. “BrewDog accessed £ 25million oof Government- backed loans in AAugust so they shouldn’t have a ccashflow problem. The court has seserved the papers and BrewDog hhave until December 8 to respond. “It’s £19 for me to have done that. I’vI’ve asked for my money back – and ththe £19.”

Co- founders James Watt and MMartin Dickie launched the brewery in Ellon in 2007.
